Her heels clicked as she moved, her own footsteps echoing around her, she was running as fast as she could. Her shoulder hurt so bad, blood oozing between purple and black painted finger nails. Jenny was running as quick as she could only one thought seemed to scream in her mind; she needed to save Josh. Jenny refused to lose everyone whom she had in her life all in one night, she wouldn't abandon him. Would Lien still be alive if she had only stayed home, would at least her mother still be breathing?

Jenny heard the jeeps tires squeal, a strange noise fallowed, had they turned around for her? Guilt ripped her stomach into pieces, Faith and Harleigh would no doubt be worrying. Jenny pushed herself even harder her feet pushing off the asphalt as hard as they could. "STOP!" it was Harleigh screaming, they had turned around for her after all. For a moment Jenny regretted leaving the car, deep down she knew this wasn't about Josh, it was about everything else, her sister, her mother. In that moment she accepted that she might never see Josh again, her friends were right.

As her steps slowed she accepted that her friends would drag her back into that car; that she would stay with them."PLEASE NO! OVER HERE!" Harleigh was still screaming even though Jenny had stopped running but why? As Jenny spun on her heels to see why her friends was still screaming so violently, it all came clear Harleigh wasn't yelling at Jenny but rather the thing charging towards her. Jenny gripped the spring assisted knife in her hand releasing the black metal blade.

Everything seemed to slow down in that moment, Harleigh's screams becoming distant; Jenny felt tears streaming down her face. The creature running towards Jenny was something far worse then she would have imagined. Since the world went to shit over two hours ago Jenny had a certain imagine in her head, what she saw when the word zombie was spoken. In her mind they had been more human, and so much slower, ones that took minutes just to move a few yards, but this was far from that. The once human thing that was running towards Jenny (yes running) had almost a demonic look to it; there was rage and violence in the face. The Zombies' eyes were so inhuman looking, soulless looking, yet filled with a look Jenny could only explain as animalistic hunger.

Jenny held up her knife squeezing it tightly, as the creature reached her she swung the blade. The blade went into the body stopping when it hit what must have been the sternum, Jenny's stomach dropped. Vomit danced in her mouth at the sound of her knife cutting through the zombie's body. Even with sickness rushing over her she didn't stop stabbing, she couldn't stop stabbing, and then she felt it. Pain ripped through her as what was undoubtedly a set of teeth dug into her already bleeding shoulder. Even though Jenny could not see it, she knew it was a second monster that bit into her flesh.

She turned attempting to attack this second one, but with her attention off her first attack he bit into her as well. Jenny fell to her knees as the pain became too much for her to bear, the monsters staying with her. The zombies grabbed at her bringing her fully to the floor, as she struggled she saw more were on their way. The pain was unbearable; Jenny prayed her death would come soon. As an uncountable amount of teeth ripped at her pale skin she stared blankly ahead. At the last moment as her vision began to waver a shift in the group allowed her to see the street again. Her last image ever was of her best friend crying for her.

"Am I turning anytime soon?" Dallas's words startled me; lifting my head realizing I had been lost in my own thoughts for some time. Sitting up taking a look around I tried to figure out where we were, the surroundings were a stranger to me. Dallas must have known the thoughts that ran through my head "I know I should have asked earlier but I figured I would let you both relax." Turning around in my chair I saw that Faith was lying across the seat dried tears on her cheek fast asleep.

"How long were we out?"

"Not that long maybe twenty minutes or so. I wouldn't have even bothered you but I figured we don't need to get lost right now, sorry."

"No it's fine, um. Depending on how fast you are driving the turn should have been about five minutes ago sorry."

"Should I turn around?"

"No it's fine. We can catch the next one, it will pass us through a little bit of a larger town but it shouldn't be too much of a problem we haven't seen anything to impassable yet." My thoughts went to Jenny. The town had seemed to quite, no over turned cars or raging fires like the movies always portrayed. The place had seemed normal for any town after midnight out here, but in one second we learned that these things were everywhere. I had been expecting dead bodies and blood to flow like a river in the streets to let us know danger was close, I had been wrong.

"Harleigh you know if you just want to pull over and write down the directions I can take over from here. I think both you and Faith need some time to pull yourself together even if it is just a few hours."

"Thanks but honestly I don't know half of the streets I just know the land marks around them and stuff. I kind of know the land rather than the street and stuff ya know."

"Alright; do you want me to put some music back on?" With a nod Dallas flicked through my collection putting in a mix of sounds. Though my eye lids were split I still couldn't focus on the things around me, I was lost within myself. One of my best friends was gone, not off with someone else, not on a vacation, hell not even just hating me. Jenny was dead and the last thing we had done was fight, the last thing I had done was hit her. "Turn left at the next light." The words that left my lips sounded so strange so distant.
Twenty seconds later we made a sharp turn onto another long and dark road. "Sorry about that didn't see the street until we were on it." Looking up I could see what Dallas had meant, the traffic light was off, no soft orange glow illuminated the streets.

"You ass holes need to learn how to drive. Between the two of you I am going to have a concussion before the day is over." Faith sat up as she spoke a smile was placed on Dallas's face, Faith had achieved her goal. But even with her jokes I could see the pain hidden deep within her, buried under her smile and laugh there was a pain burning brightly. As long as I had known her that was her way, she would rather smile then let anyone see her as weak. With a rough childhood she had taken on the joker routine early on and was hardly ever serious unless it was absolutely necessary. In all honesty besides myself I was unsure if any of her dozens of friend had ever seen her cry.
"How far are we?" Faith whipped at her cheeks trying to get rid of the salt that had stuck to them.

"Depending on how fast we drive the rest of the way and if we don't run into any problems, about another hour at the most."

"That's not too bad. Any word from your parents?" Faith's question caught me off guard but seemed like such an obvious one. I looked down at my cell phone, even in such a populated are my phone was roaming, both Faith and Dallas's phone said the same. I quickly turned the input on my stereo to the radio, every station was off. The only sound was a hazed static or a prerecorded emergency broadcast, we were cut off. So though there were no burning fires, no anarchy running amuck, we had lost the basics far earlier then I would have ever assumed. I turned to Faith discussing what we needed to do when we got to camp, trying to make a basic conversation to pass the time.

"I wonder how Ryle is doing."Faith was speaking of one of our friends. Ryle had been my friend for over eight years (a year before he had come out of the closet) he had been working when everything happened. Guilt ripped through me as I realized I had failed to call or even contact anyone besides my family. How many of our friends were alive at this moment, how many dead, undead?

"Hell how is everyone doing is a better question."

"I know right. Do you think they are all going to be alright?"

"Um guys I know ya'll are worried about everyone back in your home town. But I think we need to worry about us, now." Dallas' words seemed pointless, after all weren't we on our way to do just that? My lips parted to tell him to relax, but as soon as my body was facing forward again my jaw dropped. Standing in the middle of the road was a horde of these creatures which were spreading across the globe, these zombies. Dallas went to throw the jeep into reverse but as he hit the gas we heard a thud, they were behind us as well.

Faith was the first to speak "can't we just run them over?"

Dallas turned to her with a bit of rage showing on his face "There are at least twenty of them and they are on either side, do you really think with four feet of space we can really get over them?" rather than respond Faith just shrugged.

"Well we need to think of something fast, the ones behind us are already pounding on the window and lord knows how long that will hold. Any suggestions?" Rather than answer me they both just stared. From the look on Faith's face she was still for attempting to run over the bodies with my vehicle. Dallas' face said that he had an idea but one he wasn't sure of, we didn't have the luxury of time. "Dallas tell me what is rattling in that brain of yours."

Before he spoke that half southern grin of his appeared "How much do you trust me?" He was devilishly handsome with a rouge cowboy look but did I trust him, I wasn't sure yet. "I have an Idea Harleigh but you have to trust me, both of you do. I just need the sword and for you guys to make a distraction for sixty seconds, just enough to get me on the other side of them." Locking eyes with Dallas, those icy eyes hypnotized me, but could I find trust within them. how did I know if he was going to take off and leave Faith and I to die? "Harleigh I won't leave you behind, but you have to trust me, let me prove this to you."

"Fine. Faith hand me a bottle, something high in proof, the ever clear." As faith shuffled around the car looking for one of the three bottles of ever clear I grabbed an oil rag from my center counsel. "Good enough of a distraction?"

"You're damn crazy girl."The way Dallas spoke those words sounded more like a complement than anything else. I could feel a smile stretch across my face, I shook my head trying to focus, this was hardly time for flirting. Faith and Dallas switched seats giving her control of the vehicle and Dallas access to his sword. A few words were exchanged between the three us and Faith unlocked the doors.

Checking where all of the bodies were before so I slowly unrolled my window making sure the small motor wasn't to draw attention. I pulled my body into the window's opening;  letting out a long whistle, the twenty or so bodies all turned to face me; they were looking at lunch. Dallas opened his door quietly as the walking dead stepped towards me, as the few behind us moved to the sides Faith reversed the car giving us more room. When the distance was just perfect I tossed the bottle, jumping backing into my seat, Faith and I watched the scene before us unfolded.

The clear bottle of liquid hit the ground bringing blue flames up, consuming a few of the creatures. Their bodies going up in flames didn't seem to stop the creatures, but it sure made the distraction we needed. As a reaction rushed through them (what I could only explain as shear panic) but it was far too late. Dallas framed by the newly falling snow and the blue flames began taking out the creatures. His sword work was beautiful, where had he learned how to weld it, and what else had he learned in his life? As Dallas went to work both Faith and I tilted out heads to watch his every move. Faith turned up the XXX song playing  giving us the perfect ambiance for the scene any one with half a pulse could appreciate. The attractive southern man looking like the cover of some dollar story romance book, and neither of us seemed to mind.

The lyrics to that classic rock song seemed to mock the events which were unfolding, outlining the masculinity of Dallas. "Where do you think he," I began but Faith shushed me focusing on the gorgeous southern man before us. There was something breath taking about him at that moment, something aw striking. As the flames burned out he was done as well, over twenty bodies dismembered at his feet. He stood there breathing heavy, blood covering his shirt and splattered in his hair, he had my trust.
Just a section from another story I have begun.... Zombies.... Romance ... Horror kind of has a touch in a few diffrent genres
